Our History

The Peoples Bank & Trust Company of Hazard was chartered in 1923 and has operated continuously in Perry County since its inception.

Since its inception, the Bank’s primary mission has been to serve the banking needs of Hazard, as well as Perry County and the surrounding counties, and this mission continues to be the primary driving force behind the Bank today. Being the oldest and most firmly established Bank in the Perry County area, the Bank has built a reputation of conservative soundness that has served it well. Through the years, our Bank has enjoyed higher quality leadership and staff than its competitors, which has helped the Bank to maintain a major share of the local banking market.

Peoples Bank & Trust Company has occupied the same building at 524 Main Street for 90 years. The Bank began operations in Vicco, Kentucky as First State Bank and moved to this building in December 1928. The name of the Bank was changed, and Peoples Bank & Trust Company has expanded its facilities through the acquisition of other buildings on Main Street. We currently have four branch offices and seven ATM’s located in Perry County: Airport Gardens Branch (ATM), Daniel Boone Branch (ATM), Express Bank (ATM), (ATM’s only at ARH Hospital, Hazard Community & Technical College, on East Main Street, and the Main Bank lobby). Peoples Bank & Trust Company, capitalized at $15,000 in 1923 and has grown to a Bank with average assets exceeding $300 million.
